Just make things more simpler & clearer, Microsoft has planned to rename Windows Phone Marketplace to Windows Phone Store on its smartphones. Marketplace is App store for Windows Phone devices. The new branding is expected to be rolled out with Windows Phone 7.8 on existing devices such as Lumia 900.. and with Windows Phone 8 on next gen smartphones.

The newly revamped Microsoft Dev Center adds a caption saying “Join Dev Center and publish your app in the Windows Phone Store.” This has sparked off rumors of a new brand name for the marketplace. Keeping in mind that Windows 8 already includes a Windows Store, it is not much of a stretch to assume that Microsoft is aiming for consistency across their product lines.

As of this June 5, 2012, the Marketplace had more than 100,000 apps available!
