Nokia E72′s Firmware Updated to v51 – Changelog in house

We’ll this was unexpected. Thanks to Mark of Nokiablog, we have come to know that Nokia E72 has received a Major firmware update. There’s some noticeable changes like :

QuickOffice upgrade into 6.2.439
- New languages introduced, Office 2007 compatibility

- Music 3.0: full album purchase, PIN less activation
Lotus Notes Traveller 8.5.1 update
Smart Connect 1.3.55 update
OVI Store 1.6 update
OVI Files widget 1.2.3.0 update

Microsoft Office Communicator added to vanilla SW UDA content

Menu layout changes, among other things:
- Maps moved to Main menu from Applications – GPS folder
- Help moved from Main menu to Applications folder
- Main menu re-ordered
- SW update moved from Phone folder to main level of Control panel folder.
- Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, Bloomberg moved from Internet folder to Applications folder
No changes to vanilla memory cards
Altogether 450+ errors are fixed.

Update using your device

Set your device to alert you when new software updates are available.

Select Applications > SW Updates in your device’s menu.
Choose the software you’d like to update.
Follow the instructions on the device display.

Update using your PC

Nokia Software Updater can be used which Requires: Windows 7, Windows Vista or XP, USB cable to connect your device to your PC.

I wish I didn’t update; few little things bothering me since I did.

Mostly, you get NO notification of a txt message if on silent if you are doing anything else; checking email, watching a clip, browsing net. Used to vibrate, have a small mail icon at the bottom and the square white light would flash; now nothing.

Also the clock is small – why would they do that?

New firmware 051.018 is not yet available for E72-2 NAM. It’s been 50 days since its release for E72-1 Europe and we still do not have it in North America. Nokia wants to reward the few Nokia Diehards. I’m not getting any value for my money. I should have opted for the iPhone or Android.

Well, you must feel great about Nokia releasing yet another update excluding the North American market! The last firmware update I received was version 031.023. I too have an E72-2 and have tried to update via sw update, device manager and ovi suite. When I contact NokiaUSA, I get the old “updates may be carrier dependent…”. My phone was bought unlocked! Like Ramzy, I’m feeling left behind and shut out by Nokia. I’ve been using Nokia phones since 1998 and now I see how Nokia rewards loyalty. As soon as a high end Android device with qwerty keypad comes out on AT&T, I’m finished with Nokia. And to think I was planning on buying the E7!
