Nokia 5230 Review
Nokia launched the cheapest touch phone for the Indian market yesterday. The Nokia guys have not really done something mind-blogging with the device , they’ve just managed to keep the body ie the shape and design of 5800 mating with a 2MP cam removing features like wifi , flash for phone cam. However, they keep trying to catch up with other mobile manufacturers like Apple, Samsung or HTC by producing more touchscreen handset. As said earlier this new device have the combination of it predecessor XpressMusic 5800 and 5530. Nokia seem mixed up the two device to form the 5230 because it has a body of 5800 and the mind of 5530.
The Nokia 5230’s design is exactly identical with XpressMusic 5800, both of them measures 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm in dimension. However, the 5230 is slightly 6g heavier, hardly you’ll notice. Other design on the phone are still same, the same nHD 3.2? 360 x 640 pixels resolution touchscreen as well as the control keys under the display. The Nokia 5230 is available in 7 different color combination’s and the battery cover comes in different colors to help you customize the phone.
However, the Nokia 5230 has no WiFi , so its all just ur GSM or 3G connectivity. 5230 is equipped with a 2MP camera. So it can be told that Nokia has downgraded some of the specs in 5800 in order to make 5230 more affordable. Since there are no big differences in hardware between 5800 and 5230. Also you don’t get data cable, no memory stick , no extra stylus , no stereo headphones you’ll need to shell out some extra bucks on those too.
Nokia 5230 running on the Symbian S60 5th Edition that also has been use in XpressMusic 5530, but with some improvement in the UI. At the homescreen, the horizontal shortcut at the bottom is remains but the content inside of it is changed. No more shortcut for Facebook application found, instead of it is the Ovi Store app that for you to purchase musics, games and application. The search shortcut also has been replaced by the Ovi Map shortcut. The media and messaging shortcuts still remains, but have been switched location.
The Nokia 5230 also come with the latest version of Ovi maps. This version of Ovi maps now is support 3D images of landmarks, aerial images and terrain map views. The music playback of 5230 as what the Nokia has promised is 33 hours which is pretty awesome.
The phone is more responsive than 5800.. Added to the kinetic scrolling which is one amazing stuff which Nokia has managed to give this low end ruler. Not to forget 5800 is still lacking kinetic scrolling and its a shame on part of Nokia.
Quick rap, the Nokia 5230 is the combination of XpressMusic 5530 and XpressMusic 5800 and eliminated the WiFi and 3.2MP camera. Nokia not taking chance’s with their design , sticking to same old 5800 design. Not a good move in my opinion. Also as i have pressed on cheap device its not the device which is cheap , its the price tag in India it cost Rs.8400. So if WiFi and camera isn’t you priority, then you can close ur eyes and go for Nokia 5230.
