Major Symbian UI Overhaul update on its way!
We knew this coming. As promised by Nokia, they are going to release a firmware update post PR 2.0 which will completely change the way Symbian will look and feel. Marc Driessen, Nokia Benelux product manager, threw some light on what the next big Symbian update will bring with it. As some of you might remember, Symbian^4 is not part of the roadmap anymore, but some of these features will be moved to Symbian^3 instead, which will be then called as just ‘Symbian’ later on.
UI Changes to expect
- A pull-down status bar on the top (like the one seen in Android);
- A completely new and flexible widgets
- Simplified navigation bar below
- Better menu system
You can expect this update once Nokia rolls out PR 2.0 update which will make the current S^3 ready for this UI update later on. The rumored big Symbian update is scheduled to go live by this fall. Also, PR 2.0 is expected sometime very soon, ie by this month end or next. So this goes without saying that Symbian is ready to grab some attention, market share and importantly customer satisfaction. Amazing isn’t it?
Only question is how fast these updates are going to be rolled-out without any major concern.
