Stephen Elop, CEO Nokia has confirmed to Reuters that. “Work has begun on the first Nokia smartphones based on Microsoft software.” He also added that “He’s not aware of a strategic interest that Microsoft would have in the rest of the business.”

Nokia is hugely struggling with their OS, Their market share has seen a dip. They don’t have a good market presence in the US. Which led Nokia to adopt Microsoft and work on its WP7 ecosystem. They did consider partnering with Google, but they were clear with the way they wanted to take. They didn’t prefer the crowded way i feel.

Also Nokia’s chairman has said Windows-based Nokia phones will be on sale from 2012. Where dare-devil Elop has said that they’ll produce a Windows phone by the end of this year.

Another clumsy point here is, The agreement between Nokia and Microsoft still has to be finalised. But yet again Elop has said he expects to happen in the next couple of months.
